C. Clifton Young - November 7, 1922 to April 3, 2016

Clarence Clifton "Cliff" Young's public life spanned nearly every branch of Nevada public service. Born in Lovelock in 1922, he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada and his law degree from Harvard Law School. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Nevada's at-large district in 1952 and re-elected in 1954, and won the Republican nomination for the United States Senate in 1956, narrowly losing to incumbent Alan Bible.

He served in the Nevada Senate from 1966 to 1980, then on the Supreme Court of Nevada from 1985 to 2002, including a term as chief justice from 1989 to 1990. A lifelong conservationist, he was president of the National Wildlife Federation from 1981 to 1983. The Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Reno was renamed in his honor in 1988. He died in Reno at age 93.
