District Judge - Eighth Judicial District Court - Civil/Criminal Division - Department XXIV
On June 10, 2026, Governor Joe Lombardo appointed Colleen Brown to the District Court bench. Judge Brown took the bench on June 29, 2026. Originally from the Midwest, Judge Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Marquette University before obtaining her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2009. Prior to and during law school, she gained valuable experience through internships with the Office of the Judge Advocate General and civil litigation firms. During college, Judge Brown was a participant in the American Mock Trial Association competitions and active in student government. In law school, she continued her mock trial participation as well as joined the Moot Court program and Wisconsin International Law Journal where she served as a Senior Managing Editor. After relocating to Nevada in 2009, Judge Brown joined the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, where she served in a wide range of prosecutorial assignments. Beginning in the Appellate Division, she later prosecuted cases in Justice Court and District Court, handling thousands of cases including matters involving domestic violence, vehicular crimes, and other serious offenses. Just prior to taking the bench, Judge Brown served as the Team Chief of the Major Fraud and Elder Abuse Units, supervising a team of prosecutors and staff while maintaining her own active caseload. Her responsibilities included reviewing and assigning cases, preparing and litigating complex criminal matters, presenting cases to grand juries, and conducting jury trials. Judge Brown has also argued appeals before both the Nevada Court of Appeals and the Nevada Supreme Court. Beyond the courtroom, Judge Brown has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public service and professional education. Governor Brian Sandoval appointed her to the Nevada Commission for Women and she also served on Nevada’s Vulnerable Adult Fatality Review Committee. She was a frequent instructor for law enforcement training programs, teaching topics such as Fourth Amendment law, domestic violence, stalking, and criminal procedures. Judge Brown has also served as a Transitioning into Practice (TIP) mentor. Judge Brown oversees a split civil and criminal docket.
