Edward C. Reed Jr. - July 8, 1924 to June 1, 2013
Edward Cornelius Reed Jr. was born in Mason, Nevada, served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, and earned degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno and Harvard Law School. After a year as a tax attorney in Boston, he returned home to Reno, where he practiced law from 1953 to 1979 and served as a special deputy state attorney general for water rights litigation from 1967 to 1979.
Nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Nevada by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, he served as the district's chief judge from 1986 to 1992 and continued on senior status for two more decades, hearing cases until his death in Reno at age 88.
