In Memoriam

Jerri L. Hill - March 19, 1946 to April 16, 2017

Jerri Louise Hill was an attorney, activist, and educator whose legal career was rooted in service to those with the fewest resources. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Spanish, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Smith College, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching from Temple University. She went on to receive her J.D. from the University of Utah and was admitted to the Nevada bar in 1989, as well as to the bars of Utah and Colorado.

Ms. Hill devoted much of her professional life to public-interest and legal-aid work. She worked in public assistance and taught English as a Second Language, and she was a steady advocate for women experiencing domestic violence. As an attorney, she represented low-income clients at Utah Legal Services and served legal-service clients in Denver, bringing her skills to those who might otherwise have gone unrepresented.

In her later years she maintained a private practice in Parker, Colorado, where she tirelessly served her clients, frequently on a pro-bono basis. Across three states and a range of settings, her career reflected a lasting commitment to access to justice and to the communities she served.
