Jerry Wiese grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from Rancho High School. He attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He attended law school at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 1994. He practiced law in both Nevada and Arizona from 1994 through 2010, when he was elected to the District Court bench. During his career as a trial attorney, he represented Plaintiffs and Defendants and practiced in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, construction defect, workers compensation, contract litigation, collections, insurance defense, wrongful death, and insurance bad faith. He served as a Court Appointed Arbitrator for many years, and sat as a Pro Tem Justice of the Peace for several years, in North Las Vegas, where he presided over both civil and criminal cases. He had a contract with the Public Defender’s Office for many years, and represented inmates at the High Desert State Prison in Parole Violation Hearings. Since taking the bench in January of 2011, Judge Wiese has presided over numerous trials, both civil and criminal, and has presided over many settlement conferences. He previously served as the Presiding Civil Judge and as a member of the Court’s Executive Committee, and most recently he served two terms as the Chief Judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court from July 2022 through June 2026. Judge Wiese served four years as a board member of the Clark County Bar Association and currently sits on the Clark County Law Library Board. He currently presides over a general civil/criminal case assignment, Specialty Courts, including the TAP and OPEN Programs, Foreclosure Mediation Assistance matters and the Judicial Settlement Conference Program. Judge Wiese loves serving the public as a District Court Judge, and is particularly fond of helping parties resolve their own cases through settlement conferences. He is committed to taking the bench on time, being prepared, treating all parties and attorneys with respect, and making fair and impartial decisions.
