Joseph Stephen Pavlikowski was born March 25, 1928, in Republic, Pennsylvania, and passed away April 11, 2021, at the age of 93. Before entering the legal profession, he served in the Air Force as a fighter pilot during the Korean War, flying more than 100 combat missions in the F-86 Sabre Jet.

He became a Nevada lawyer in 1961. From 1962 to 1966 he served as a deputy city attorney in Las Vegas, and from 1967 to 1970 he served as a Clark County justice of the peace. He was elected to the district court bench at a time when there were only six judgeships in the county, going on to preside over the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County.

Judge Pavlikowski held his district court seat beginning in 1971 and became the most senior trial judge in Nevada, serving for 28 years before retiring on June 30, 1999. He then continued to serve the state's judiciary as a senior district judge, taking assignments around Nevada.
