Judge Larry R. Hicks

Larry Richard Hicks served as a United States district judge for the District of Nevada from 2001 until his death in 2024, nominated by President George W. Bush and taking senior status in 2012. Born in Evanston, Illinois, he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1965 and his law degree from the University of Colorado in 1968.

His Nevada career began in the Washoe County District Attorney's office - first as a law clerk, then as a deputy from 1968 to 1974 - before he was elected District Attorney of Washoe County, serving from 1975 to 1979. He then spent more than two decades in private practice in Nevada before his appointment to the federal bench, where he served for 23 years.
