Peter Leonidas Flangas - June 1, 1924 to March 17, 2021
Peter Leonidas Flangas practiced law in Nevada for more than six decades. Born in Magna, Utah, to Greek immigrant parents, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, earned a philosophy degree from the University of Utah, and graduated from its law school in 1955.
Admitted to the Nevada bar in 1958, he maintained an office in Clark County from that year forward and served as district attorney of Lyon County from 1962 to 1966. Known as a tenacious courtroom advocate and a champion of clients of modest means, he traveled across Nevada, Utah, and beyond to take their cases - and tried his last case in his late 80s.
He was a founder of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Las Vegas and a founder and past president of the local chapter of AHEPA, the Greek-American philanthropic association. A licensed pilot, he flew his Cessna 180 for fifty years. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Wanda, their children Leo, Jason, and Vanessa, and their grandchildren. His son Leo followed him into Nevada practice.
