Richard A. Gammick - 1946 to May 14, 2026
Richard A. Gammick, the longtime Washoe County district attorney, built a layered civic career that ran from the police beat to the head of the prosecutor's office. He became a Reno police officer in 1973 while attending the University of Nevada, Reno, earned a business degree there, and graduated from the McGeorge School of Law in 1982. He was also a decorated veteran, having served a combat tour in Vietnam with the United States Army and later in the Nevada National Guard.
Before his election as district attorney, he served as a deputy district attorney and spent a decade as chief deputy district attorney in Washoe County, and also worked as deputy Reno city attorney and legal advisor to the Reno Police Department - a breadth of experience that shaped his reputation across Nevada law enforcement and the bar. He died on May 14, 2026, at age 79; tributes to his service were entered into the Congressional Record.
