Steven Paul Elliott

Steven Paul Elliott built a distinguished legal and judicial career in northern Nevada that spanned more than four decades. Born in Mammoth Lakes, California, he graduated from Stanford University in 1971 and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, in 1975. Admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1976, he began his public service in 1977 as a prosecutor for the City of Sparks, and in 1979 he was elected Sparks City Attorney - an office he held for 17 years.

In 1996, Elliott was elected to Department 10 of the Second Judicial District Court, where he served on the bench until March 2013. After his retirement from the district court, he continued to serve the courts as a senior judge. Throughout his years in the law, he was widely known and respected among his colleagues, who affectionately referred to him as 'The Judge.'

Beyond the courtroom, Elliott was deeply engaged in his community. He was a founding director of the Washoe County Domestic Violence Task Force and served on the Statewide Court Security Task Force. He also served on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, was a founding director of the Sparks Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Reno Rotary Club. He was remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Steven Paul Elliott died on January 5, 2021, at the age of 72.
